Mushroom Adventures

To be completely and totally honest, I don’t like the taste of mushrooms all that much.  It’s only when they’re a part of certain foods (tom kha soup, pizza) that I really find them palatable.  Nothing makes my stomach turn quite like a bite of raw mushroom.  Just thinking about the indescribable squishy texture gives me the willies.

That said, I adore the mushroom in concept.  I can’t think of any other food that I find quite as adorable.  I find them so cute that my Christmas gift to Nate this year was a wool sweater with homemade red and white spotted mushroom appliques on it.  I’m also really drawn to the foraging, wild food aspect.  There are few foods that are so readily available to be hunted in the great outdoors (but only with a trusty guidebook and an experienced companion, of course).

My love/hate relationship with ‘shrooms has left me in a bit of a conundrum.  But maybe there’s hope. (more…)
