Mesclun Madness

11 Apr

I took some pictures out in the greenhouse today just for the hell of it.  I really wasn’t anticipating on posting any of them but I was so amazed when I compared today’s picture of the mesclun starts to the one from April 5th.  It’s only been six days but the seedlings appear to have tripled in size!  Plants are amazing!

Feeling Green

9 Feb

Yesterday Nate finally made a big commitment.  No, not to me, but to a year of growing our own food by buying a greenhouse.  He picked it up from his place of employment and got a sweet deal on it.  While the included instructions left a little to be desired, it was relatively easy to set up; we probably spent an hour on it tops.  All that is left to do is level the ground where it is going to live, stake it down and then christen it with a name.  Oh, and put some plants in it.

If you are considering a greenhouse but don’t have the space for this walk-in monstrosity (it’s about 7′ by 4′), BiMart is also carrying a much smaller model with four shelves.  At just under $50, it seems like a good deal for the urban farmers out there.
